SYNOPSIS

Martha has traditional values and is an integral part of her church. She lives her life according to the Christian faith but begins to doubt and internally spiral when she dissects the Bible’s teachings about women. Instead of fighting against this, she decides to conform to the Church’s teachings. She develops self-hatred due to her sinful doubts, battling the morals of her former self and pressures from the church and is oppressed into unwavering commitment, becoming part of the problem and going against her old beliefs. Eli joins the church seeking guidance and hoping for change in her life. She confides in Martha, believing she is the ally that she is portraying. A trust and a close bond develop between them, and Eli is blindsided when Martha lets her façade slip, forcibly encourages her to suppress herself for the sake of the church, just like Martha did all those years ago. Manifesting the power of tradition and the church’s inability to change its views toward women.

Logline

The film confronts how modern women engage with the misogynistic teachings of the bible and the effects it has on their lives.
